Frequently Asked Questions

What is vinyl?
A predetermined mixture of polyvinyl chloride, stabilizers, colorants, UV inhibitors and impact modifiers.
How is vinyl fence made?
The ingredients to make vinyl are mixed, heated and extruded into lineals similar to lumber. These pieces are cut to size, holes are routed and assembled to the desired fence style.
How is my fence put together?
Enduris fences are typically assembled by routed holes. This provides a neighbor friendly product, free from unsightly brackets and fasteners, and avoids corrosion issues.
Will my fence turn yellow?
Your fence has a high level of UV inhibitors (Ti02) which prevents the sun's rays from turning your fence yellow. You must keep your fence clean as grime from the elements can turn many colors.
Will my fence mildew?
Mildew grows on organic materials and vinyl is a non-organic material. Mildew, will, however, attach to dirt if the vinyl is not cleaned.
Does vinyl expand or contract?
Vinyl expands and contracts because of heat, unlike wood which expands because of moisture. A contractor will allow for expansion or contraction in the installation process.
Does vinyl have a warranty?
Yes, a limited lifetime warranty which is transferable.
How do I clean vinyl fence?
With mild detergent and water. More stubborn stains can be removed with Simple Green.
Will my fence stand up to wind?
Vinyl fence is produced to stand up to specified wind loads if installed according to instructions.
What will a weed eater do to my vinyl fence?
Direct contact with any lawn equipment can damage vinyl, aluminum or wood products. Use caution when operating equipment that could scratch your fence.
Could my fence crack, rot, chip or peel?
No, unless abused.
How are fence posts put in the ground?
It depends on the soil. In certain parts of the country dirt can be packed around the post if the hole is deep enough. Although, cement is recommended in a hole which is dug twice the diameter of the post. Some installers route the bottom of the post so cement can flow into the post.
What is the cost of a vinyl fence compared to a similar design in wood?
The cost of material is approximately two times that of wood. However, you must consider installed cost. There is no filling, sanding, painting, especially railing products. And, no maintenance is required for a lifetime.
Can vinyl be used for deck or front porch applications?
Yes, when properly designed, vinyl products can make a very stable railing system.
What is chalking?
All vinyl will chalk. Chalking is the deterioration of the vinyl surface, exposing Ti02 particles to the elements. The white powder wiped off vinyl profiles is Ti02 particles mixed with deteriorated vinyl.
Will the vinyl turn yellow?
Vinyl fencing is engineered to retain looks and beauty, using a high grade TiO2 that protects the vinyl from sun's harmful UV rays.
Can vinyl be painted?
Yes, with a water base paint. However, this will void the manufacturer's warranty on your product.
What effect does vinyl have on the environment?
Vinyl products are safe, do not support combustion and are not toxic. They will not break down and have adverse effects on the environment.
Is vinyl fence graffiti proof?
While not graffiti proof, vinyl fence is very easily cleaned. In most cases, mild detergent and water will work. Difficult, soiled stains can be treated with stronger cleaning agents as long as wiped with water after the removal of grime.
